Wondering what to do while you're here? Here are a few great daytrips to consider:

Gilligan's Island - Sandy beach - cool, clear water

I love to take the grandkids here during the summer - late afternoon for 1 or 2 hours. It's not too crowded - just long enough to relax the hot day's wearies. The park closes at sundown.

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

My favorite day-trip - There is plenty to do and the walking is easy.

First, I check out the education center to see what's happening and figure out how to plan the day. I always plan a picnic and bring your cold water to enjoy as you walk through the day. A "must-do" is the tower overlooking the swamp. Then head over to the old homestead.

Woodbine Opry

This is a nice evening - local talent of varying degrees and good food. A little something different. See St Marys website for more information.

Cumberland Island

This is a very popular day trip, and was voted 1 of America's 10 best beaches by the Travel Channel. You get an early start with the ferry over to the island - leaving on time at 9am and 11:45am. The boat returns at 10:15am and 4:45pm. They have camping on the island: This is a :rustic" day so backpacks and walking is the way for most. There are bike rentals on the island at seacamp.

Fernandina Beach

It's only a 45 minute drive over the border to Fernandina Beach. If you want to see the sand and waves, this is a fun trip. It's got historical stuff and real ocean stuff (sharks' teeth, if you have sharp eyes). A beatuiful afternoon.
